Women’s AmeriCup 2025 stars begin their WNBA journey

After impressing in Chile, Olivia Miles, Gabriela Jaquez, Flau’jae Johnson, Gianna Kneepkens and Grace VanSlooten are ready for the WNBA spotlight.

MIAMI (United States) – The 2026 WNBA season, which tipped off on May 8, features a strong connection to the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025, with five players who stood out just months ago at the continental tournament in Chile. The platform provided by the competition, combined with their strong NCAA campaigns, helped propel these players into the latest WNBA Draft. Here’s a closer look at their performances at the Women’s AmeriCup 2025 both through the numbers and what they brought to the court beyond the stats.

    Olivia Miles - USA

Position: Point Guard Team: Minnesota Lynx 2026 WNBA Draft: 2nd pick, first round Scouting report: She is a generational passer. One WNBA talent evaluator described her as “a true point guard unlike any we’ve seen in a long time.” She can also score and rebound. - CBS Sports Women’s AmeriCup stats: PTS: 6,9 | REB: 5,3 | AST: 7,1 No-look passes and full-court assists became Miles’ signature throughout the tournament. Her deliveries regularly appeared among the top plays of the day. She finished as the tournament’s assists leader and flirted with a triple-double on two occasions.

    Gabriela Jaquez - Mexico

Position: Forward Team: Chicago Sky 2026 WNBA Draft: 5th pick, first round Scouting report: She brings tremendous energy. Her intensity on the court will translate well to the professional level. She does everything: drives, shoots, defends, rebounds, and moves well without the ball. - CBS Sports Women’s AmeriCup stats: PTS: 12,0 | REB 6,1 | AST: 1,1 In her first AmeriCup appearance, she earned the tournament’s Rising Star award. At just 22 years old, she was one of the youngest players on the Mexican team, and still finished among the team’s top three in points, rebounds, and assists.

    Flau’jae Johnson - USA

Position: Guard Team: Seattle Storm 2026 WNBA Draft: 8th pick, first round Scouting report: She is one of the most athletic and naturally gifted players in the class. She has true potential to shine on both ends of the floor. - CBS Sports Women’s AmeriCup stats: PTS: 4,3 | REB: 3,3 | ROB: 1,3 Standing out on a talent-packed United States roster is never easy, but Johnson stayed patient and showcased her ability in the Quarter-Finals. Coming off the bench, she posted tournament highs in minutes (20), points (20), and assists (7). This performance showed why evaluators consider her one of the top prospects in the class.

    Gianna Kneepkens - USA

Position: Shooting Guard Team: Connecticut Sun 2026 WNBA Draft: 15th pick, first round Scouting report: She is clearly a perimeter shooting specialist who can space the floor with her outside shot. She also moves very well without the ball. - NBC Sports Women’s AmeriCup stats: PTS: 9,7 | REB: 3,6 | 3P: 13-26 She led the tournament in three-pointers made in Santiago while shooting an impressive 50 percent from beyond the arc. In five of her seven games, she knocked down at least one shot from long range. She also recorded two games with at least four made three-pointers.

    Grace Van Slooten - USA

Position: Forward Team: Seattle Storm 2026 WNBA Draft: 9th pick, third round Scouting report: She is a reliable low-post player. Her offensive rebounding is valuable, and she also makes defensive plays without committing fouls. - NBC Sports Women’s AmeriCup stats: PTS: 5,6 | REB: 4,7 | BLQ: 0,7 She anchored the paint for USA. Whenever opponents broke through the first defensive line, her 1.90-meter frame consistently protected the rim. She also created second-chance opportunities with 15 offensive rebounds out of her 33 total boards during the tournament.

More AmeriCup talent reaches the WNBA

The 2026 WNBA Draft featured a total of 10 players who previously competed in the Women’s AmeriCup. In addition to the five players mentioned above, another five participated in the 2023 edition held in Mexico: Lauren Betts (USA) Washington Mystics | 4th pick, first round Raven Johnson (USA) Indiana Fever | 10th pick, first round Cassandre Prosper (Canada) Washington Mystics | 4th pick, second round Janiah Barker (USA) Las Vegas Aces | 14th pick, second round Chance Gray (USA) Los Angeles Sparks | 9th pick, second round
