MIAMI (United States) – Brazilian stars Damiris Dantas and Kamilla Cardoso headline the preliminary roster for the defending champions, Brazil, as they begin preparations for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025, set to take place from June 28 to July 6 in Santiago, Chile. A total of 18 players have been called up by the new head coach of Brazil’s women’s national team, American Pokey Chatman. Training camp will begin on June 15 in São Paulo, Brazil. Meanwhile, Dantas (Indiana Fever) and Cardoso (Chicago Sky), who are currently competing in the WNBA season, will join the team directly in Santiago ahead of the tournament. Brazil’s full preliminary roster includes: Manu Alves, Maria Albiero, Ana Beatriz, Licinara Bispo, Kamilla Cardoso, Damiris Dantas, Emanuely De Oliveira, Catarina Ferreira, Alana Gonçalo, Vitória Marcelino, Carina Martins, Ayla McDowell, Aline Moura, Bella Nascimento, Iza Nicoletti, Taissa Queiroz, Thayná Silva, Iza Varejão.
"I respect all the teams; each will bring different challenges. Our focus remains on building the team and implementing our system of play to achieve all our goals, step by step," said Chatman in a statement from the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB). Dantas and Cardoso were a part of the team that won the title at the previous edition of the Women’s AmeriCup. Other returning players from the 2023 championship squad include Alana Gonçalo, Emanuely De Oliveira and Aline Moura. Meanwhile, Sassá Gonçalves will miss the tournament due to injury. Brazil will play a friendly pre tournament game against Canada on June 22 at the Arena Mercado Livre Pacaembu in São Paulo and is scheduled to travel to Chile on June 25. In the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, the South American team is in Group A alongside Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and El Salvador. Click here to view their full game schedule.
