Egypt and Mozambique granted wildcards for 2025 Women's AfroBasket

    Press Release

Four months before the 12-nation Women's AfroBasket, ten teams have been confirmed.

ABIDJAN (Côte d'Ivoire) - Egypt and Mozambique have been awarded wildcards for the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket, FIBA Africa has announced.

Egypt finished second in the Zone 5 qualifiers held in Cairo last month after losing 74-63 to eventual regional champions Uganda.

Mozambique, on the other hand, lost 109-108 (aggregate) to Angola in a two-game series played in the Angolan capital Luanda (3-4 February).

Egypt and Mozambique have now joined the eight other teams that secured their places at this year's Women's AfroBasket by winning their qualifying series and reaching the semi-finals of the 2023 edition of the tournament.

According to FIBA Africa, two more wildcards will be confirmed in April to complete the 12-team field.

The 2025 Women's AfroBasket will take place from 25 July to 3 August in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

The teams that have qualified so far are: Côte d'Ivoire (hosts), Nigeria (2023 champions), Senegal (2023 runners-up), Mali (2023 bronze medallists), Rwanda (2023 fourth-placers), Cameroon (Zone 4 qualifiers), Uganda (Zone 5 qualifiers), Angola (Zone 6 qualifiers), Egypt (wildcard) and Mozambique (wildcard).
