BEIRUT (Lebanon) - There have been two seasons of the FIBA WASL Gulf League so far. And both of these seasons have proceeded towards the inevitable outcome of Kuwait Club coming out on top and hoisting the trophy as champions.
They have more than cemented their spot as the team to beat in WASL-Gulf. How can they further add on to their legacy in the 2024/2025 season?
History
While Kuwait Sports Club are widely recognized for their success in football, the basketball team has built an equally impressive legacy over the past six decades.
They are the most decorated team in Kuwaiti Division 1 Basketball League history, with 15 national championships - and counting - to their name.
Their trophy cabinet is filled with numerous other domestic titles, including the Kuwaiti Cup of Martyr Fahed al Ahmad, the Federation Cup, and the Super Cup.
On the regional stage, Kuwait SC made history in 2022 by becoming the first Kuwaiti team to win the Arab Club Basketball Championship. Their dominance continued in the inaugural FIBA WASL, going 10-0 to win the Gulf League title.
From there, they'd make their way to the Final of the FIBA WASL Final 8, but fell just short against WASL-Gulf rivals Manama in a championship befitting of a finale.
The 2023/2024 season in WASL-Gulf was just as successful for Kuwait Club as they ended up bagging home their second title, losing just once en route to it.
In the Final 8, they made it to the Semi-Final and had an opportunity to qualify for the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia). However, they bowed to WASL-West Asia powerhouse Shahrdari Gorgan in the Third-Place Game.

Path to 2024/2025 FIBA WASL
Prior to this most recent season, Kuwait Club had won five straight championships in the Kuwaiti Division I Basketball League. Half a decade of dominance, yes.
Therefore, it was not too surprising when they rolled over the competition for their sixth title in a row in 2024, sweeping Al Qadsia - a WASL-Gulf newcomer - in the Final.
It's never easy to win a championship, but Kuwait Club have made it seem easy domestically. And surely, they hope that it generates enough momentum for another triumphant season in the prestigious regional meet that is WASL - and beyond.
