MUNICH (Germany) - The FIBA Youth EuroBasket tournaments continue to serve as a springboard to senior stardom for many of the leading lights on the Continent.
Looking back at the honors board of past events, you'll discover a multitude of ballers who have all went on to shine on some of basketball's biggest stages.
Every summer, one player rises above their peers in each competition and is ultimately crowned MVP. For some, it's launch-pad to fast-track their respective careers; while for others, it's an important high point in an evolving journey.
Here's a look at how the last five FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket MVPs have progressed since winning the prestigious accolade.
2025: Gina Garcia (ESP)
Then: A vital figure in Spain’s championship win, the guard led her team with poise and creativity. Averaging 11.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, Garcia dazzled fans with her ability to control the game and deliver when it mattered most.
Now: Garcia has completed her freshman year in college; making an impression in the NCAA with Kansas State Wildcats. She showed her leadership as playmaker with more than 5.0 assists per game.
2024: Awa Fam (ESP)
Then: Fam posted a 20-point and 14-rebound double-double in the Final as Spain were squeezed out by France 83-75. The frontcourt ace finished the tournament with 11.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
Now: Fam lit it up on her senior tournament debut with a stellar showing at FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025. Her sensational Semi-Final performance was central to Spain taking silver. She's expected to play at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 and has gained more EuroLeague Women experience balling with Valencia.
2023: Carla Leite (FRA)
Then: Leite took her side to the title with a super show in Lithuania as they strolled to a Final victory against Latvia. The guard averaged an eye-catching 18.4 points, 4.3 assists and 3.6 rebounds per outing.
Now: Crowned a EuroCup Women champion with Villeneuve d'Ascq LM in 2024, she was also awarded MVP honors. A move to Casademont Zaragoza followed and she helped the Spanish team make history with a first ever EuroLeague Women Final Six ticket, eventually taking third-place in front of a sold out crowd of more than 10,000.
2022: Claudia Contell (ESP)
Then: Contell was a standout for Spain as they stood on the top step of the podium thanks to their stellar defense. They beat Czechia 47-42 in the Final, with the forward averaging 10.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game across the tournament.
Now: The forward returned for a second edition of U20 the following summer and added a bronze medal to her collection. At club level, Contell played in EuroLeague Women with Valencia and since suited up for Gran Canaria and Estepona.
2019: Sara Madera (ITA)
Then: The forward was a difference-maker as Italy won the silverware by beating Russia 70-67 in a classic Final matchup on Czech soil in Klatovy. She posted 13.6 points and 7.7 boards per game in the tournament.
Now: Madera was part of the Italy team that won their first medal in more than three decades at FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 when they took the last step of the podium. She is also pushing for a FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 slot after impresssing in the Qualifying Tournaments, winning a TCL Player of the Game honor.
