The time is now for Japan after Goto is go-to again

The tournament has been something of a slow burner for Japan, but they suddenly find themselves with the podium in sight after sailing into the Quarter-Finals thanks to a 66-52 triumph against Brazil.

Once again it was Otoha Goto who inspired her team with an outside shooting clinic. She made six triples and finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds for a super performance efficiency valuation of 33.

Stunning Silva show seals historic success for Portugal

Portugal are clutching onto a first ever Quarter-Finals ticket at the global level in men or women and in FIBA youth or senior events after taking a dramatic and landmark 83-80 win against Israel.

It was founded on a majestic show from Clara Silva who enhanced her reputation with more brilliance. She racked up a performance efficiency valuation of 43 after barely missing while recording 37 points and also adding 10 boards. The loss was tough to take for Israel and Ayala Cohen who had 20 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds.

USA enter all-time record charts again after taking care of China

Despite a pedestrian start against China, the tournament favorites shifted up the gears to blow their opponents away 122-57.

    They recorded:

    • the 5th-highest points tally in tournament history (122)

    • the 8th-best total for field goals (46)

    • the joint 3rd-best efficiency score, at a staggering 175

    • the 9th-most assists (31)

Jazzy Davidson continued her rich vein of form with 18 points and 9 rebounds - as did Sienna Betts who had 21 points and 10 boards. Saniyah Hall caught the eye again at both ends with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.

Canada can breathe after being pushed hard by Korea

While the eventual margin of victory looked comfortable at 70-58, Canada were far from being that as they scrambled their way into the last eight against an inspired Korea. Their opponents played brilliantly and slowed down the usually free-scoring Canadians with some relentless and intense defense.

Canada still had enough in the tank to advance - thanks mainly to a smart 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists from Cearah Parchment, 15 points and 9 boards from Syla Swords and 14 points plus 7 rebounds from Agot Makeer. It was Yeonseo Lim who excelled in defeat with 20 points for Korea, who will be proud of a positive performance.
