The red-hot favorites and current holders look set to dominate Group A.

BRNO (Czechia) - There could barely be bigger favorites than the USA side that will tip-off the defense of their cherished trophy at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.

Their first steps will see them look to make an early statement of intent in Group A and they could spell bad news for Hungary, Israel and Korea who can surely only dream of beating the holders. If any of them do, it would create a truly epic shockwave around women's global hoops.

    The Favorite: USA

While ultimately adding another title to their double-digit collection might not be guaranteed, finishing in pole position of Group A looks an absolute lock. They reigning champions have the usual glut of talent and depth to get it done with not only three wins, but three big victories and classy performances will be expected.

There are some stellar rising stars ready to take to the floor, with key trip Sienna Betts, Jazzy Davidson and Jerzy Robinson all arriving to Brno looking to enhance their already glowing reputations. But the fact is that any one of this USA lineup could come through and lead them to more glory.

    The Underdog: Korea

Korea finished in 4th place at the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup 2024 with a 3-3 record where they showed some glimpses of potential, but also their vulnerabilities too.

They struggled from the three-point line and must find their range in Brno to avoid last spot as scoring was tough for them in Shenzhen. Their defensive intensity could be key, as well as the leadership of Yunha Song and Minji Lee.

The Pivotal Game: Israel vs Hungary

On paper at least, this all-European matchup is a straight fight for second spot in the group and that could be decisive heading into the Round of 16.

There is even talk of Israel being a dark horse behind the talent of the awesome Gal Raviv after she led her country to a historic Semi-Finals place at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket 2024 last year, with Hungary finishing in 6th.
