LAUSANNE (Switzerland) - The pairings and schedule for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 Round of 16 are now confirmed following the successful conclusion of the Group Phase in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Round of 16
The Round of 16 will all take place on Wednesday July 2 with games at Lausanne Arena and Cooly Arena.
July 2
ARG v SLO - 11:15 CET
Argentina registered two victories in the group stage - beating Serbia and Mali - while Slovenia only picked up a win over China in the first three days. These two countries met at this same stage at the FIBA U17 World Cup 2022 with Slovenia winning 69-55.
NZL v CHN - 11:45 CET
New Zealand lost their final group stage game to Serbia but still took top honors in Group A while China went winless in Group B. New Zealand defeated China 86-71 in the FIBA U18 AsiaCup 2024 Semi-Finals and have lost just one of seven games against China at the youth level. That came at the FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2017.
MLI v CAN - 14:00 CET
While Canada will be the favorites for most, the Americas side cannot take Mali lightly. The Africans beat Serbia in the group stage and they also have positive history with Canada, beating them 71-70 en route to the FIBA U19 World Cup Final in 2019.
SRB v GER - 14:30 CET
Rarely have we had such an enticing matchup in the Round of 16. This is not just an all-European clash but both of the teams have nearly the same roster as last summer when Germany beat Serbia in the Final of the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024.
ISR v CMR - 16:45 CET
This is a battle of two first-timers in this competition and while Israel did not lose in the group stage, Cameroon lost all three games. But Cameroon has a major size and athleticism advantage and also will be battle-trained after facing France, Australia and USA in the group.
JOR v USA - 17:15 CET
Very little needs to be said about this game as USA are the overwhelming favorites. In fact, Jordan would have to pull off the biggest upset in FIBA U19 World Cup history to register their first win in competition history.
DOM v AUS - 19:30 CET
Dominican Republic and Australia will square off in a rare match-up. The Americas side lost two games in the group stage while Australia picked up two wins in their group. These teams have faced off just once since 2001 in youth basketball - with Australia winning 73-71 in the FIBA U17 World Cup group stage.
SUI v FRA - 20:00 CET
Another fascinating matchup as hosts Switzerland get their wish - at least the fans probably do - and get to face France in the Round of 16. France have struggled to really find a rhythm with two losses while Switzerland will enter the game after two straight wins.
