MIAMI (United States) – The participating teams in the FIBA U17 South American Women's Championship learned their opponents for the Group Phase following the official draw held this Friday in Miami, Florida. The event will take place from October 20 to 26 at the UENO COP Arena in Asunción, Paraguay. The groups were drawn as follows:
Group A
1. Ecuador 2. Argentina 3. Brazil 4. Bolivia 5. Uruguay
Group B
1. Paraguay 2. Venezuela 3. Chile 4. Colombia Prior to the draw, the teams were allocated into three pots based on the current FIBA World Ranking, presented by Nike, for women’s youth competitions in the Americas. Two additional pots with team positions were also used to determine the order of the games. To ensure competitive balance, it was established beforehand that host nation Paraguay would be placed in Group B, while Venezuela and Chile would compete in the same group.
Competition system
In the Group Phase, each team will play one game against every other team in its group. The top two teams in each group will advance to the Semi-finals, while the teams finishing third and fourth will play in the classification games for positions five through eight. The team finishing fifth in Group A will be automatically eliminated from the competition and placed ninth overall. In the Semi-finals, the matchups will be: 1A vs. 2B 1B vs. 2A The winners will advance to the Final, while the losers will play for third place. The top three teams from the FIBA U17 South American Women's Championship will qualify for the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2026. Brazil is the defending champion, having won the 2023 edition.
