BERTRANGE (Luxembourg) - The third and final promotion spot from FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket, Division B, will be decided on Saturday after the Semi-Finals were completed.
Finland and Portugal will play for the right to join Tournament 3 winners Greece and Tournament 1 winners Belgium in next summer's Division A.
Finland overcome stubborn Netherlands
Finland had to work hard, but eventually defeated the Netherlands 73-65 in the Division B Semi-Final.
After an even first 10 minutes, Finland gradually pulled away but met Dutch resistance until the fourth quarter, when the Finns created enough breathing space to secure the win.
Ellen Farkkila led the winners with 17 points, 4 assists and 5 steals. Veronique Schutte had a game-high 19 for the Netherlands.
Portugal hang on to beat Ukraine
Portugal survived a late flourish from Ukraine to win 66-63 and set up the Final against Finland.
A closely fought battle was on a knife-edge with 46 seconds left and the game tied up at 61-61. Gabriela Andrade drilled a three with 36 seconds to go. Ukraine had their chances at the foul line, but fluffed their lines, allowing Portugal to close the game. Ariel Vicente stuffed the stat sheet to lead Portugal, as she finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Sofia Kotsyubynskyy had 15 for the unlucky Ukrainians.
