PEJA (Kosovo) - Cyprus are the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2025, Division C champions, having beaten Armenia 65-58 in Sunday's Final. This is the new Division C record as Cyprus claimed their fifth title.
It was a game that Cyprus dominated from the get-go; Armenia's only lead in the game came in the opening possessions. However, Cyprus quickly responded, sparking a run that saw them create an eight-point cushion in the first quarter. A low-scoring second stanza had Armenia limited to only 10 points with Cyprus scoring 17 in the meantime to lead 38-27 at the half-time.
More of the same followed at the start of the second half with Cyprus opening up strong to claim the biggest lead to the moment, a 17-point difference with only 16 minutes to play and a big mountain to climb ahead of Armenia. That lead was matched at the beginning of the last period when Armenia attempted to make a late push.
A 6-0 run put them in the single-digit area, but there wasn't enough time to complete a full-blown comeback so Cyprus endured and claimed their fifth total Division C title, first since 2022 with 65-58 as the final score.
Angeliki Kyprianou put up 19 points to lead the new champions, whereas Katerina Shakalli sinked four three-pointers for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Tournament MVP Evelina Demetriadi compensated on a low-scoring 4 points with 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Kelin Shajanian recorded 22 points for Armenia.
Albania claimed back-to-back bronze medal after beating Malta 61-57 in an exciting Third Place Game showdown. Malta had a 10-point lead in the third period, but Albania turned it around led by Antea Filopati's all-around performance of 13 poitns, 10 dimes, 9 steals and 7 rebounds.
Elswhere, Georgia won the fifth place by beating Kosovo 81-67 riding the wave of Ana Mestumrishvili's 24-point performance. Anila Fazliu matched that in the terms of scoring, but tournament hosts fell short nevertheless.
Moldova cruised past Gibraltar 55-33 in the Classification Game 7-8 with Eva Gorbunova's double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds.
