Eight players to watch at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B

    Preview
Barbora Subova impressed in Division A for Czechia last year.

It's going to be an exciting tournament in Konya but which players are going to excel?

KONYA (Türkiye) - The FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B tips off in Konya with a glut of rising stars looking to put on a show.

You can vote below for which player you think will make the biggest impact in this year's competition.

Make sure to also check out who to watch in the DivisionA tournament, which will be taking place in Miskolc, Hungary.

    Barbora Subova - Czechia

    SMALL FORWARD

    Birth Date: March 17, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.85m (6ft 1in)

If Czechia want a quick return to Division A after last summer's relegation, then Subova will be a major factor in their expected push for promotion. She almost averaged double-digits in the top tier and the forward has the capability of being one of the stars in Konya. Her scoring touch is often productive, but even more potent if she can convert from long-range.

    Athena Thompson - Great Britain

    GUARD

    Birth Date: April 1, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.75m (5ft 9in)

A supremely athletic and scoring guard who loves to get downhill and take the ball to the hoop, Thompson is one of the best British prospects in some time and will continue her basketball education in the States. She already showed her potential last summer with some excellent displays, eventually harvesting 14.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

    Aoibheann Donnelly - Ireland

    GUARD

    Birth Date: August 1 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.68m (5ft 6in)

While Donnelly never put up huge numbers at the 2023 edition, she was handed plenty of minutes and that underlined the trust of the coaches. Since then, she's improved and was her country's MVP of a four-team preparation tournament in Luxembourg. She should be a real leader this time with her smart shot selection, nice finishing and defensive qualities.

    Juste Mockeviciute - Lithuania

    SMALL FORWARD

    Birth Date: April 18, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.78m (5ft 10in)

There are multiple options to choose when it comes to Lithuania, who missed a promotion last year but have several returnees. Even if Mockeviciute doesn't put up stunning numbers, she is the kind of rock that they can build their Division A hopes on. She averaged 9.1 points last time and it was the near 18 minutes per game that explains her importance to the team.

    Isabella Marion - Denmark

    FORWARD

    Birth Date: December 22, 2008 (15 years old) Height: 1.94m (6ft 4in)

You can bank on Marion improving in her 2023 FIBA debut when she didn't finish around the basket and came up short on her usual levels. A super prospect, her talent is not in doubt - something highlighted by the University of Kentucky already offering her a spot Strong, with nice size and athletic prowess, her skills are growing and she'll be a real handful for defenses.

    Laura Liisa Grunmann - Estonia

    GUARD

    Birth Date: July 21, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.75m (5ft 9in)

Estonia had a fantastic run to the Semi-Finals at the 2023 edition in Podgorica and Grunmann was one of the ballers who turbo-charged the campaign. She averaged almost 13 points per game, grabbed 4 board per outing and with another year of development under her belt and with Estonia having other players at their second edition, she could inspire promotion.

    Mia-Elle Lieverst - Netherlands

    GUARD

    Birth Date: May 8, 2009 (15 years old) Height: 1.80m (5ft 11in)

The combo guard showed great signs last year and has been cooking lately in preparation which makes it a no-brainer to be on this watch-list. Her team finished 10th in 2023 and she can help them improve dramatically after almost 14 points and 7 boards last time. She also top scored and made the All-Star Five at a friendly tournament in Luxembourg recently.

    Begum Demir - Türkiye

    GUARD

    Birth Date: February 4, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.75m (5ft 9in)

Appearing at last year's event for her country and only able to have a modest impact, there are high hopes from the Türkiye staff that Demir will be the baller that orchestrates their promotion push. Playing at the Botas Spor club, she is not someone who will do it through huge stats, but because of her composure and maturity from the backcourt calling the plays.
