SKOPJE (North Macedonia) - A late three from Luka Leni Ukic gave Croatia a stunning victory over Iceland in the FIBA U16 EuroBasket, Division B Final.
Elsewhere, Estonia defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Third Place Game to clinch the final promotion spot to next year's Division A event.
Croatia win Division B title in tense Final
A corner-pocket three-pointer from Luka Leni Ukic with two seconds left gave Croatia a 69-67 triumph over Iceland in a Final for the ages.
After both teams exchanged 11 lead changes in a pulsating yet tense first three quarters, Iceland held a 55-54 advantage, but neither side could break the chains and pull free. However, with the game being decided by the slimest of margins, it was Croatia - and Ukic - who held their nerve when it mattered.
Ukic led Croatia, hitting five three-pointers and finishing with 27 points and 11 assists. Atli Haraldsson had 18 points and 12 boards for unlucky Iceland.
Estonia beat Bosnia and Herzegovina to punch Division A ticket
Estonia secured third spot in Division B and promotion to Division A next summer, after a strong second performance saw them beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 83-67.
With just a point separating the two sides at the break, Estonia came out stronger in the third, outscoring Bosnia and Herzegovina 25-13 to build a lead which they never relinquished.
Bert Martin led the Estonians with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. In his scoring haul, he hit four three-pointers. Mak Omerovic had 21 points for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
