MUNICH (Germany) - The buildup to the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 generated an unprecedented burden of expectation as fans and media from around the world were growing increasingly eager to witness the most star-laden tournament in European basketball history, in Katowice, Limassol, Riga and Tampere.

It would take a truly memorable competition to meet the expectations of such a massive audience, but long before the 42nd edition of the continent's flagship event concluded in Riga on September 14, it had become evident that this tournament had risen to the occasion in spectacular fashion.

The thrilling action, memorable games and larger-than-life individual performances of some of the world's greatest stars right from the opening day of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 in Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Poland, created a unique package that captivated audiences around the world and shattered all previous records of online engagement.

The fact that audiences could just not watch enough footage of the spectacular on-court action was one of the main drivers of this record-breaking performance, as video views nearly tripled compared to FIBA EuroBasket 2022, soaring to 2.8 billion from one billion three years earlier.

Total social media impressions more than doubled, to 9.2 billion from 4.4 billion in the previous edition, with social media engagements ballooning to 246 million from 145 million.

The direct result of massive audiences consuming all this engaging content that was produced, during the tournament was that EuroBasket’s social media channels gained more than 926,000 followers throughout the cycle, a truly head-turning increase during such a limited time period.

The record-breaking social media growth went hand-in-hand with an explosive surge for the official website of the competition and the accompanying official FIBA EuroBasket 2025 mobile app.

Website sessions, which is an important metric of visits to the page, more than doubled compared to 2022 as they jumped to 15.2 million, from 7.3 million for the official website of the 41st edition.

Even more impressively, page views increased nearly four-fold to 78.5 million tripled from 21.5 million three years previously. Editorial page views registered an almost identical growth rate as they surged to 3.7 million from 1.1 million for EuroBasket 2022.

Following the same growth trend, the official FIBA EuroBasket 2025 mobile app was downloaded by 421,000 users, up from 230,000 compared to the previous edition.

The eye-popping digital records of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 are inextricably linked with its success in all other areas that denote that fans' engagement with this edition scaled historical heights.

Even before the tournament culminated on September 14 with Germany fighting past Türkiye in the big Final to lift the trophy for the first time since 1993 and German captain Dennis Schroder earning MVP honors, the 42nd edition had already registered a rise in attendance numbers and in TV ratings across Europe.

It is indicative that, according to figures released by the broadcasters, more than 10 million viewers in in Türkiye watched the Semi-Final of their national team against Greece, the highest rating for a basketball event in recent Turkish TV history, while the Quarter-Final between Greece and Lithuania registered an average share of 46 percent on Greek television.
