RIGA (Latvia) - Danilo Gallinari has officially retired from the Italy national team with the country's Round of 16 exit at FIBA EuroBasket 2025 being his final game for the Azzurri.
Gallinari, whose career spanned 21 years in both youth and senior competitions, averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10 minutes this summer.
Gallinari bid farewell to the international stage with a ceremony after the game in which he received a plaque from FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa.
"We're in good hands. The younger players have matured a lot, and it will be exciting to see them on TV," Gallinari told Italian media after the game.
Galliari played 19 games for Italy in three EuroBaskets (2011, 2015 and 2025). He totalled 252 points, 100 rebounds and 30 assists.
In addition to the three continental championshipss, "Gallo" appeared in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, the 2020 Olympics and FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2016 and 2024.
Gallinari, who played 14 season in the NBA, never was able to reach the podium for Italy but his legacy will live on.
