MIAMI (United States) – The official draw for the Centrobasket Qualifier to the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 was held Monday in Miami, Florida. A total of eight national teams will compete in the tournament, scheduled from July 12-18 at the Alexis Argüello Sports Complex in Managua, Nicaragua. Before the draw, teams were paired based on their positions in the FIBA Women’s World Ranking, presented by Nike. They were then drawn into groups, along with a placement number that determines the order of games. The groups are as follows:
New competition system
A new competition system will be implemented for this edition:
Each team will play one game against every opponent in their group
The first-place teams from each group will advance directly to the Semi-finals
The last-place teams from each group will play for fifth to eighth place
The second-place teams will face the third-place teams from the opposite group (2B vs. 3A and 2A vs. 3B). The winners will advance to the Semi-finals to face the group leaders, while the losers will join the last-place teams for positions five through eight
At the end of the competition, the top three teams will secure qualification for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 and will join El Salvador, which has already qualified automatically as host of the continental tournament.
Puerto Rico has won the last four editions of this tournament, previously known as the Centrobasket Women’s Championship.
