GEORGETOWN (Guyana) — Bahamas and the Virgin Islands came out on top Thursday on Day 2 of the FIBA CBC Women’s Championship 2025, held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana. The Bahamian squad earned its first win against Suriname, while the Virgin Islanders were victorious in their tournament debut against Guyana. Jamaica had the day off. Here are the highlights from the tournament’s second day:
Bahamas 77 – 45 Suriname
Lashann Higgs lit it up from long range, knocking down seven three-pointers on her way to 35 points. The Bahamas forward (1–1), in just 16 minutes, also grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 7 assists and collected 5 steals. Higgs drained 7 of her team’s 8 three-pointers on 17 attempts, for an impressive 41 percent from beyond the arc. She also put up 29 field-goal attempts, converting 13. Her teammate Valerie Nesbitt recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists, while Michell Butler finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
For Suriname (0–2), Beyonce Jedinie posted a double-double of her own with 15 points and 11 rebounds, along with 5 steals. Chiniqua Pengel added 10 points.
Virgin Islands 78 – 54 Guyana
Anisha George hit 10 of her 12 two-point attempts and led her team with 23 points. The center also pulled down 4 rebounds and added 2 blocks. Taylor Jones followed with 18 points and 5 boards. The Virgin Islands (1–0) struggled from deep (4–21), but capitalized on Guyana’s 29 turnovers to score 36 points off miscues.
For Guyana (1–1), Joy Brown delivered a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Ruth Adams also contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds. Friday’s scheduled matchups: Suriname vs. Virgin Islands — 4:30 p.m. (local time) Jamaica vs. Bahamas — 8:30 p.m.
