MANILA (Philippines) - The Philippines are the next team to confirm their spot in the Second Round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.

They have the Tall Blacks to thank for the early confirmation as a 99-67 win for New Zealand over Guam made this progress possible.

The Philippines had lost to New Zealand earlier in this Window 2, but hours before even taking the floor against Australia, they are guaranteed to finish among the top three teams in Group A.

Meanwhile, their upcoming opponent, the Boomers, too have already qualified, with a perfect 3-0 record.

In hindsight, Philippines' 2-0 record in the opening window, courtesy back-to-back wins over Guam, made this early advance possible, with another First Round window of games still left to be played.

The Southeast Asian powerhouse are gunning for their eighth FIBA Basketball World Cup appearance, and fourth straight showing since 2014.
