Five must-watch games in Americas Qualifiers Window 3

    Short Read

Several matchups in this final stage of the First Round will be crucial in determining who advances to the next phase and secures the top spots in each group.

MIAMI (United States) – Window 3 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers will determine the 12 teams that advance to the Second Round. With very little margin for error, national teams will need to be at their best to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Here are five games you do not want to miss during Window 3 of the Qualifiers:

Panama vs. Cuba - Group D

July 2 – Local Time: 8:40 p.m. (GMT-5) Roberto Duran Arena, Panama City (PAN) With first place in Group D virtually secured by Uruguay following their convincing 61-44 victory over Argentina, the remaining question is which team will claim the group's third qualifying spot: Panama or Cuba. The winner of this head-to-head matchup will enter the final game day of the First Round with the inside track to advance. Panama won the first meeting by just three points (84-81), meaning Cuba only needs a four-point victory to secure the tiebreaker. Given how evenly matched the teams have been, both remain well within reach of qualification.

Dominican Republic vs. Unites States - Group A

July 3 – Local Time: 8:00 p.m. (GMT-4) Palacio de los Deportes, Santo Domingo (DOM) The Dominican Republic delivered one of the biggest surprises of the Qualifiers so far by defeating the United States on the road during the previous window. That victory moved the Dominicans into first place in the group, although both teams enter this game with identical 3-1 records. Now, playing at home, the Caribbean squad has an opportunity to all but lock up first place. Another win over the Americans would put them in an excellent position heading into the Second Round, but the USA will be looking for revenge and a chance to reclaim the top spot.

Bahamas vs. Jamaica - Group B

July 3 – Local Time: 8:00 p.m. (GMT-4) Sir Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium, Nassau (BAH) Group B remains one of the most intriguing groups in the competition. Canada has clearly worked their way to the top, but the other three teams remain tightly packed with virtually no room for mistakes. Bahamas defeated Jamaica in front of their crowd during the previous window (99-96) and will now try to repeat the feat at home. Jamaica, meanwhile, will look to prove that the two victories over Puerto Rico in Window 1 were no fluke.

Bahamas vs. Puerto Rico - Group B

July 6 – Local Time: 7:10 p.m. (GMT-4) Sir Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium, Nassau (BAH) Since Puerto Rico already lost the head-to-head series against Jamaica, the best path forward is to defeat the Bahamas and secure that series. The Puerto Ricans won the first meeting 71-66 in February, but now they must complete the task on Bahamian soil. The Bahamas could potentially add NBA stars to the roster this summer. If those reinforcements materialize, the outlook becomes more difficult for Puerto Rico.

Venezuela vs. Chile - Group C

July 6 – Local Time: 8:10 p.m. (GMT-4) Gimnasio Luis Ramos, Puerto La Cruz (VEN) These two teams battled for the final spot in the last AmeriCup Qualifiers. This time, the scenario could be remarkably similar, with a Second Round berth at stake and Venezuela once again hosting the decisive game. In that win-or-go-home contest for the AmeriCup, Venezuela needed overtime to escape with a one-point victory (73-72). During the previous window, the Venezuelans again prevailed by a narrow margin on the road (72-68). The smallest details made the difference in those two most recent meetings, and all signs point to another tightly contested showdown.
