RADES (Tunisia) - Caleb Agada set a new three-point record in the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers by sinking eight triples, helping Nigeria to overcome Cape Verde 100–84.
The previous record was set by Rwanda's Kenneth Gasana during the 2019 tournament when he buried seven three-pointers in a 77-79 loss to the Central African Republic in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, in February 2019.
Three other players — Shannon Evans (Guinea), Fabien Ateba (Cameroon), and Côte d'Ivoire's Sire Dieng — have all previously scored seven three-pointers in a game.
On the last day of the first round of Group E, Agada came off the bench and shot 9-for-12 from the floor, including an 8-for-11 haul from behind the arc, to finish with a national team career-high 26 points.
He also added seven assists, four rebounds and one steal, helping Nigeria improve to 5–4 with three games left in February 2027.
In his six games so far, he has averaged 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. His previous highest scoring haul was 22 points in a narrow 80–79 win against Guinea last month in Luanda, Angola.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers three-point record belongs to South Korea's Hyunjung Lee, who scored nine in a 80-76 win against China.
