Team Profile: Can Matero overcome their Elite 16 blues?

    Preview

The Tamanga Boys have questions to answer.

NAIROBI (Kenya) - Zambia's Matero Magic have struggled in their last three appearances at the Road to BAL Elite 16 Division East. They will take to the stage for the fourth time on Tuesday, and the question is whether they can overcome their 'bogey stage'.

    History

Founded in 1996, the Tamanga Boys first tasted success in 2004, and they have gone on to lift 11 more domestic titles.

    Coach

American Chandler Simon will take over from David Musonda, who qualified the team to this stage of the competition. Simon has not had much time with the team, and he will have to integrate his philosophy into the team.

    Key Players

    Elijah Mukalebai

The forward is not afraid to take opponents on. His slashing drives and finishing at the rim are his go-to moves, which have served the Magic well.

His 17 points and nine rebounds were crucial for Matero, who expects their forward to maintain his level of production.

    Jacob Mushinge

Mushinge stepped up in his debut season for Matero. His 20-point performance in the final game against the Bravehearts showed that he has ice in his veins.

He was 7/11 from three-point range, and Matero will want him to be close to that level of sharp shooting in the Elite 16.

    Corey Boyd

The American made his presence felt in the paint for Matero. Apart from scoring (12 points) and rebounding (11), the big man can also be a facilitator, which makes him a problem for opposing defences.

    Elite 16, Group B

Matero will square up against Mozambique's Ferroviario da Beira, Tanzania's DarCity and Malawi's Bravehearts.
