China keep faith with Bangkok aces

BEIJING (FIBA U19 Women's World Championship 2017) - China are already planning to make a splash at the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship in Udine after keeping faith with the bulk of the team that delivered success at U18 level in Bangkok recently.

China secured a fourth consecutive title at the FIBA U18 Asia Championship for Women after posting a flawless 7-0 record, including an emphatic 78-47 success against arch rivals Japan in the showpiece Final.

Since they celebrated a wonderful tournament in the Thai capital. China haven’t wasted any time in turning their attention to delivering success on the global stage. They have announced a 13-strong preliminary squad for next year’s event in Italy, with 10 players from Bangkok back on board.

The team also met up for a training programme and headlining the get-together were standout stars like towering centre Han Xu and do-it-all guard, Wang Jiaqi. They both have experience of competing against other nations from around the world after propelling their country into the Semi-Finals of the FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship in Zaragoza earlier this year.

Han Xu made the All-Star Five at the event and was similarly potent in taking China to the top step of the podium at the FIBA U18 Asia Championship for Women. Jiaqi led the way in both scoring with 16.3 points and also dished up 5.7 assists per game. There is also space for Li Yueru who accumulated a brilliant tournament double-double with 15.9 points and 13.9 boards per game.

China will head to Udine to fly the flag for Asia alongside Japan and Korea, who also punched their ticket in Bangkok.
