Semi-Finals all set in Zaragoza

ZARAGOZA (2016 FIBA U17 Women's World Championship) - There was history for Italy and Australia at the FIBA U17 Women's World Championship as they reached the Semi-Finals of the competition for the first time.

Italy progressed 58-56 in dramatic circumstances against Canada who suffered a first loss. Sara Madera had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Italy, who had to survive Canada missing a late triple attempt.

History also came the way of Australia too as the Sapphires recorded an 83-53 win over Czech Republic. Ezi Magbegor came up with a terrific 20 points, 8 rebounds and a sensational 6 blocks, while captain Jasmine Simmons racked up 17 points and 15 boards.

China also grabbed the headlines after they surprised the previously unbeaten hosts Spain 55-51, as center Xu Han finished with a brilliant 18 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Team-mate Lingge Zhang also landed a double-double and China will now play Italy on Friday.

Australia will match up against the reigning champions USA who outlasted France 56-45 as Christyn Williams dropped 17 points.

Meanwhile, in the Classification 9-16 games, Mexico celebrated a great comeback to beat Korea 60-57 and collect a first win as Patricia Ayala posted one of the performances of the tournament with 21 points and 23 rebounds. They will play Brazil for 13th place, while Korea's tournament is over with a 15th-place finish.

Latvia and Japan will battle it out for 9th place after they claimed wins against Mali and Portugal respectively.
