Mozambique appoint Sale and Ngulela as coaches for FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017

MAPUTO (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) - Nasir Sale is back at the helm of Mozambique national team for the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017, the country's Basketball Federation has confirmed.

Sale takes over from his former assistant Bernardo Matsimbe, who led the team during the qualifiers against Zimbabwe in March.

He will be assisted by former Mozambique international Deolinda Ngulela, who retired from international basketball two years ago after the FIBA Women's AfroBasket in Yaounde.

Ngulela (far right) was named to the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2015 All-Star team

It will be Sale's third straight FIBA Women's AfroBasket in charge of his country. The 50-year-old has guided Mozambique to a second-place finish at FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2013 held in their capital in Mozambique, before leading Mozambique to a Sixth-Place finish two years ago.

This year's 12-team African Championship will take place in Bamako, Mali from August 18-27, and Mozambique have been drawn in Group B along with reigning champions Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Guinea, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
