Cameroon announce preliminary squad for FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 training camp

YAOUNDE (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) - Cameroon have invited nine of their players from the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2016 (WOQT) for the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 training camp.

According to the Cameroon Basketball Federation (FECABASKET), the team will open preparations on Tuesday, July 25 in the capital Yaounde.

While Monique Ndjock - who became the team second leading scorer at last summer's WOQT with averages of 11 points per game - has been added to the 18-player preliminary squad, Brittany Starling will not join the team FECABASKET said.

Cameroon qualified for this year's African Championship by virtue of finishing runners-up as hosts of FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2015.

In order to secure one of the two tickets on offer for African teams for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain, Cameroon would need to begin with a successful campaign in Group A, which included hosts Mali, Tunisia, Angola, Cote d'Ivoire and the Central African Republic.

The FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 will take place in Bamako from August 18-27.
