Unbeaten El Salvador, Venezuela lead Americas teams to FIBA U15 Women's Skills Challenge 2021

MIES (Switzerland) - El Salvador and Venezuela both went unbeaten through the Americas Qualifiers as they led eight teams through to the FIBA U15 Women's Skills Challenge 2021.

They were joined by Argentina, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Panama and Puerto Rico and Suriname to take the field to 22 teams following the recent African and Asian Qualifiers.

El Salvador finished 5-0 in Group A after edging Argentina to top spot with a thrilling 139-140 triumph on the final day.  Dominican Republic had picked up three wins from their five games to go through in third, while Suriname took the last spot in a three-way tie with Virgin Islands and Jamaica.

The battle to win Group B was even closer as Venezuela won a tie-break in their 140-140 duel with Puerto Rico, while Panama and Guatemala also advanced in third and fourth, respectively.

The full standings of the Americas Qualifiers are available here.

Venezuela had recorded the best score across the five days as they posted 132 points in a convincing opening success against Nicaragua.

The final 10 spots will be confirmed at the European Qualifiers from May 12-18, 2021.
