African and Asian berths at FIBA U15 Women's Skills Challenge 2021 confirmed after Regional Qualifiers

MIES (Switzerland) - Almost half of the field for the 32-team FIBA U15 Women's Skills Challenge 2021 has been decided after 14 teams qualified from the first two Regional Qualifiers in Africa and Asia.

Cameroon, Egypt, Madagascar, Morocco, Tunisia and Uganda were the six teams to make it through the African Qualifiers, while Australia, China, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Mongolia, New Zealand and Syria advanced from the Asian Qualifiers.

Madagascar, Cameroon and Tunisia all went unbeaten in their respective groups in Africa, as Egypt, Uganda and Morocco battled through as runners-up.

Tunisia pulled out the best score from the five days in a decisive encounter with Morocco with their 129 points sealing the victory. There was also a dramatic duel for top spot in Group A as Madagascar edged out Egypt by the finest of margins in a 139-140 triumph.

China, New Zealand and Lebanon were all perfect in Asia with Iran also going through as a group winner as they sealed the head-to-head over Australia after two close encounters.

Australia had won the first clash by a single point, but Iran avenged the loss with a six-point victory on the final day of action to go through in style. China were the best performing team with three scores in the 110s as they sailed through their group.

Americas Qualifiers take place from May 5-9, 2021 to determine the next eight spots, while 10 places are to be decided at the European Qualifiers from May 12-18, 2021.
