Test Event tune-ups for Brazil, Australia, Argentina and Venezuela

RIO DE JANEIRO (2016 Rio Olympics) - There won't be many secrets between Brazil and Australia if they meet at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Both sides will be taking part in the Olympic Test Event in January.

Australia qualified for the Olympics by winning the FIBA Oceania Women's Championship in August while Brazil gained entry as the host nation.

Argentina and Venezuela will also be at the test event, which is being staged at the Basketball Arena at the Olympic Park in Rio 15-17 January.

They will use the gathering as a warm-up for the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT).

Though none of the teams are likely to be a full strength, there are sure to be hard games with plenty of intensity as players try to enhance their chances of making Olympic rosters.

"Let's look at the test event as a real preparation for the Rio Games," Brazil coach Luis Augusto Zanon said.

"The goal is to call the 12 players that are in the best possible condition for the training period.

"I will personally observe and follow the games of the (Brazilian) women's league and see how they feel on the court and if they are able to be selected from a physical standpoint.

"We need to make a good presentation at home.

"For the Rio Games, roster spots are still open and everyone will have the opportunity to show their worth.

"This will not be a closed call, but is an important step to experience the Olympics."

Brazil fell to Argentina in the battle for third place at the FIBA Americas Women's Championship in Edmonton, Canada.

As they were granted a spot in the Olympics as the host nation, fifth-place Venezuela received an invitation to the WOQT.

To take part in the WOQT is a huge honor for Venezuela and their star player, Daniela Wallen.

Australia swept their two-game FIBA Oceania Women's Championship series against New Zealand to clinch a place in the Olympics.
