Njonkou steps up as Cameroon remain undefeated

YAOUNDE (AfroBasket Women 2015) - Amina Njonkou made the most of the her strong build to destroy Gabon's defense as Cameroon remain the only undefeated team at AfroBasket Women 2015.

Njonkou inspired Cameroon with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the hosts eld on to a 67-56 victory

Turning Point: Gabon used a 12-2 to close the first quarter leading 18-11. However, Cameroon's sense of desperation emerged in the second quarter as they outplayed Gabon 19-10 to go for break leading 37-21.

But when Gabon seemed knocked, they emerged out of nowhere to tie the contest a 49 later in the third.

As Gabon grew in confidence Cameroon readjusted their perimeter defense in the final quarter,  and Njonkou and the rest of the crew did the rest offensively.

Stats Don't Lie: Astride Gano and Ramses Lonlack buried 3 three-pointers in the second quarter, energising Cameroon to a comfortable 37-21 half-time lead.

Geraldine Robert, the tournament leading scorer, remained at her very best, leading all scorers with 20 points.

Game Hero: Njonkou has played her best game in the tournament.

Bottom Line: The last time Gabon and Cameroon faced each other during FIBA Africa Zone 4 qualifier they finished with a win apiece, although Gabon ended up winning the tournament with a 3-1 mark.

Cameroon playmaker Priscilla Mbiandja later told FIBA.com: "It might have not been a pretty win, but a win is a win. Gabon is a very good team. There is something about them that grow in confidence, play together and start beat people."
