Advantage Equity Hawks, UCU Lady Canons following convincing wins

KAMPALA (FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women 2017) - Title favorites Equity Hawks saw off Horseed of Somalia 93-43 to remain unbeaten at the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone 5 Club Championship at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Susan Odhiambo Akinyi top scored with 18 points and also picked 10 rebounds to register the only double double of the game and ensure the Kenyan champions are three for three and on course to achieving their objective at the regional competition.

Belinda Aluoch Okoth added 17 points and registered 11 rebounds in a one-sided tie that saw Hawks assistant coach Benson Oluoch give a chance to the younger players who got a feel of the tournament for the first time.

Hodan Mohamed Ahmed and Jamad Fiin Husseam netted 20 and 17 points respectively for Horseed but their efforts were not enough to grant them victory and remain winless in two games.

Reigning champions Kenya Ports Authority recovered from their opening loss to KCCA Leopards on Monday to defeat APR of Rwanda 75-51.

Selina Okumu Adongo and Betty Maithima Kananu contributed 16 points apiece while Felmas Koranga Adhiambo added 10 points as they marched on to their first win much to their relief.

APR find themselves between a rock and a hard place after their win ratio dropped to 1-2 with three more games to go and need to win all their remaining games to remain in the race for a top two finish.

Meanwhile, the UCU Lady Canons continued their winning streak with a 93-36 resounding victory over Don Bosco of Tanzania to make it three out of three like the Equity Hawks.

The university side has now established themselves as serious contenders for the trophy if their consistency and determination in the last three games is anything to go by.

The top two sides will represent Zone 5 at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women 2017 set to be held in Angola from November 3-12.
