Which FIBA Europe Cup stars stood out in the Continental Cup Qualifiers?

MUNICH (Germany) - There were a number of FIBA Europe Cup players that represented their respective nations during the first window of the Continental Cup Qualifiers.

And they produced some standout performances across the games played, so we've picked out some of the leading names - and you can vote for your favorite below.

Tryggvi Hlinason - Iceland

CENTER

Birth Date: 28 Oct 1997 (26 years old)
Height: 215cm / 7'1"
Club: Surne Bilbao Basket

Hilinason had two impressive performances during the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers window. The Surne Bilbao Basket center enjoyed back-to-back double-doubles, with 14 points and 11 rebounds alongside 2 blocks in a 70-65 win over Hungary. 

He followed that with a 12-point, 10-rebound game against Turkiye, but came heartbreakingly short as Iceland lost 76-75, though it was still a strong opening window in their qualification bid. 

Miguel Queiroz - Portugal

POWER FORWARD

Birth Date: 04 Jul 1991 (32 years old)
Height: 204cm / 6'8"
Club: FC Porto

Led by Queiroz, Portugal also split their opening two games in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers as they aim for their first appearance at the event since 2011.The FC Porto forward flirted with a double-double, posting 10 points and 9 rebounds in the narrow 72-70 loss to Israel, but helped make amends 72 hours later as his 21 points and 6 rebounds was enough to secure a 79-77 success over Ukraine.

Captain Queiroz will also be hoping to lead Porto in the next phase of FIBA Europe Cup action as they take on one of the title favorites Bahcesehir College in the Quarter-Finals.

Melwin Pantzar - Sweden



POINT GUARD

Birth Date: 10 Apr 2000 (23 years old)
Height: 188cm / 6'2"
Club: Surne Bilbao Basket

Pantzar was everywhere for Sweden in their opening night success against Bulgaria, as the guard filled the statsheet with 16 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in an 84-70 win. But the 23-year-old didn't enjoy the same success on the road to Montenegro as his side suffered a 90-75 loss - finishing with 13 points and 5 rebounds. 

Denzel Andersson was also in the squad for the Qualifiers going for 10 points and 4 rebounds in the win over Bulgaria, and the duo will reunite for Bilbao in their upcoming Quarter-Finals matchup.

Sacha Killeya-Jones - Great Britain

Birth Date: 10 Aug 1998 (25 years old)

Another Bilbao representative, Killeya-Jones shone in what was a new-look Great Britain squad for this window, as his side split their opening two games against the Netherlands and Czechia.

Killeya-Jones went 5-of-12 from the field for his 12 points, whilst dishing out 3 assists and pinning one shot for a 98-94 success over the Dutch, before leading the way with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks in their 90-82 defeat on the road to Czechia.

Phil Scrubb - Canada



GUARD

Birth Date: 27 Nov 1992 (31 years old)
Height: 191cm / 6'3"
Club: Bahcesehir College

Scrubb - the December MVP in FIBA Europe Cup action - was a pivotal part of Canada going 2-0 in their FIBA AmeriCup 2025 window. He posted 13 points and 8 assists in a 96-51 win over Nicaragua, then followed it up with an efficient 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a dominating 88-46 victory over the same opponent. 

Alongside Scrubb on the Canada roster was Trae Bell-Haynes of Casademont Zaragoza and Kaza Kajami-Keane of NINERS Chemnitz with the latter dishing out 10 assists to go with seven points in the second encounter.

Kristian Kullamae - Estonia

POINT GUARD

Birth Date: 25 May 1999 (24 years old)
Height: 194cm / 6'4"
Club: Surne Bilbao Basket

Estonia enjoyed two wins in their opening qualification window as they saw off North Macedonia and enjoyed a historic win over powerhouse Lithuania. At the heart of the action was Kullamae who shot 6-of-9 from the field for 14 points to go with 3 rebounds in a 74-69 road win over the Macedonians before travelling home for a 65-59 win for Baltic bragging rights.

Kullamae dished out 9 assists to go with 6 points in the memorable victory, and will return to Bilbao as part of their successful European contingent as they now chase a FIBA Europe Cup title.

Janari Joesaar - Estonia 

SMALL FORWARD

Birth Date: 08 Dec 1993 (30 years old)

Club: Anwil Wloclawek

Not to be outdone, Joesaar certainly played his part in Estonia's success in the first window. The Anwil Wloclawek forward put up a solid 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in their victory over North Macedonia, but was saving his best performance for the second game; as he went 8-of-9 from the field for a game-high 18 points, along with 6 rebounds in the aforementioned victory over Lithuania.

Tomas Kyzlink - Czechia

SHOOTING GUARD

Birth Date: 18 Jun 1993 (30 years old)
Height: 
195cm / 6'5"
Club: Anwil Wloclawek

Kyzlink led Czechia in their win over Great Britain to conclude their opening window 1-1. He hit two three-pointers for his 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks in their eight-point win, but before that came up short on the road to Greece.

The Anwil Wloclawek man went for 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in their defeat in Piraeus. There were four other FIBA Europe Cup representatives including ERA Nymburk forward Jaromir Bohacik - who averaged 8.5 points per game for the window - as well as teammates Ondrej Sehnal, Martin Kriz and Lubos Kovar.

Honorable Mentions

Keravnos BC's Filippos Tigkas showed out for EuroBasket 2025 co-hosts Cyprus with 19 points in their 99-66 loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meanwhile, FC Porto veteran Charlon Kloof put up a solid 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals for the Netherlands against Great Britain, followed by 5 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds against Greece, but both games saw the Dutch fall to defeat.


Itelyum Varese guard Nico Mannion had 10 points and 4 assists in 13 minutes in Italy's seven-point win over Turkiye, while Balkan Botevgrad big man Yordan Minchev pulled down a European Qualifiers high of 13 rebounds in Bulgaria's loss to Sweden.

Gustav Knudsen was solid for Denmark as the 20-year-old Bakken Bears youngster had 7 points and 6 rebounds in his side's battling victory over Georgia. Away from Europe, Vafessa Fofana of BCM Gravelines Dunkerque enjoyed a perfect 3-0 weekend for Cote d'Ivoire in the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers as the forward had 5 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists in a hard-fought win over Madagascar before adding 8 points to a success against the Central African Republic.
