Preview: Which teams will advance to the FIBA Europe Cup Semi-Finals?

MUNICH (Germany) - The FIBA Europe Cup action resumes this week as the Quarter-Finals begin on Wednesday.

Eight teams are vying to be crowned 2023-24 season champions with four highly-anticipated ties to kickstart the Play-Offs.

Here's a closer look at the Quarter-Finals matchups:

Surne Bilbao Basket (ESP) vs Legia Warszawa (POL)

First Leg: Wednesday, March 6 - Warsaw, POL - 18:30 CET
Second Leg:
Wednesday, March 13 - Bilbao, ESP - 20:00 CET

FIBA Europe Cup debutants Surne Bilbao Basket have certainly settled into their surroundings, winning their first nine games that helped them reach this stage. Their varied group of players who can step up and perform when it matters makes the Spanish side even more dangerous.

However, they face a Legia Warszawa side that also got to this stage in 2022 and has thrilled those who have watched them this season with their high-octane brand of basketball. Christian Vital is the competition's leading scorer including several 30-point games, and will be an X-factor in this last eight matchup.

Stats Don't Lie:
Bilbao have won their 11 games by an average of 15.8 points - with their most significant victory being a commanding 106-58 win over Caledonia Gladiators on Gameday 3. They are unbeaten on their home court, and that could prove crucial when it comes to the second leg.

Scoring Leaders: Sacha Killeya-Jones 14.5 PPG | Christian Vital 23.4 PPG

Bahcesehir College (TUR) vs FC Porto (POR)

First Leg: Wednesday, March 6 - Porto, POR - 21:00 CET
Second Leg: Wednesday, March 13 - Istanbul, TUR - 17:00 CET

It'll be a fascinating battle between the form team from the Second Round and the fairytale story of the competition. Bahcesehir College are on a roll with 11 straight victories - including going a perfect 6-0 in the Second Round - as they look to repeat their FIBA Europe Cup success of 2022.

They square off against FC Porto who had to fight through the Qualifiers and secure a Lucky Loser spot to even make it to the Regular Season. Thanks to a never-say-die attitude and tremendous performances, they have reached the Quarter-Finals and do not want to stop here.

Stats Don't Lie:
Bahcesehir are leading the competition in rebounds (40.6), assists (23.3) and three-point percentage at 42 percent, along with being ranked second in points, averaging 92.9 per game. Dominance.

Their Portuguese counterparts are close behind in second in rebounds, pulling down 39.9 boards a game, so Bahcesehir will have to work hard at getting any second chance points.

Scoring Leaders: Tyler Cavanaugh 15.8 PPG | Anthony Barber 18.2 PPG

ERA Nymburk (CZE) v Itelyum Varese (ITA)

First Leg: Wednesday, March 6 - Nymburk, CZE - 18:30 CET
Second Leg: Wednesday, March 13 - Varese, ITA - 20:30 CET

This promises to be a offense-focused Quarter-Final matchup as FIBA Europe Cup debutants ERA Nymburk, who come up against a Itelyum Varese side who lead the competition in points per game at 93.1 - with the home games switched in this tie.

Varese had to secure their place in the last eight on the final day of Second Round action with a vital victory over CSM CSU Oradea on the road. However, they no longer have the services of star player Olivier Hanlan heading into the Play-Offs, and that could give Nymburk the edge.

Stats Don't Lie: Varese are leading the competition in scoring, but are currently in 10th in field goal percentage, at 47.2, while Nymburk are down in 19th place.

Both sides are averaging less than 13 turnovers per game - and now that the intensity has heightened and just two games can determine whether you go through or go home, execution is going to be key.

Scoring Leaders: Jitaurious Gordon 14.8 PPG | Gabe Brown 15.5 PPG

NINERS Chemnitz (GER) v Casademont Zaragoza (ESP)

First Leg: Wednesday, March 6 - Zaragoza, ESP - 20:30 CET
Second Leg: Wednesday, March 13 - Chemnitz, GER - 19:00 CET

NINERS Chemnitz were the last remaining unbeaten side in the FIBA Europe Cup before seeing their 10-game winning run crumble at the hands of Varese. Still they enter the Quarter-Finals with a great deal of confidence with an 11-1 overall record this season.

But standing in their way are the two-time Basketball Champions League Semi-Finalists, Casademont Zaragoza, who have quietly and successfully gone about their business. Any Spanish club will be a tough obstacle to overcome, and NINERS will have to bring their A-game.

Stats Don't Lie: NINERS have found comfort on their home floor this season, winning all six games by an average of 20.5 points. In fact, the German side have won five of their six home clashes by 21 points or more.

Zaragoza are almost as strong on their home floor as well with just the one loss out of six home games. So home court advantage will be a strong factor in this tie and the Spaniards can set the tone first.

Scoring Leaders: Wesley Van Beck 15.0 PPG | Mark Smith 14.8 PPG
