Social media reactions: Nanterre win the FIBA Europe Cup

NANTERRE (FIBA Europe Cup) - Congratulations to the new FIBA Europe Cup champions Nanterre 92 flocked in from far and wide, lighting up social media with videos of the on-court celebrations, words of admiration from fans and former rivals alike, as well as other interesting takes on Tuesday's events.

We look at how things went down on social media after the team's captain Heiko Schaffartzik lifted the team's second title in a space of a week.

Former Nanterre guard Jamal Shuler, who played for coach Pascal Donnadieu's side in the 2014-2015 season before going on to join AS Monaco, gave it a double thumbs up, joining a large number of former players to do the same.

Although he hasn't suited up for the club, Nando de Colo, an ambassador of the club and one of the leaders of the French national team, also sent through his best regards.

Among the 3,000-strong support, who witnessed the triumph at the Palais des Sports Maurice Thorez, was former manager of the French national football team Raymond Domenech, wearing green.

The team's former rivals in the competition also wanted to chime in with congratulations. A lot of them did, but their Regular Season opponents FC Porto got the most retweets.

And in the world of social media — that's what counts.

We can proceed further. But first... let us take a selfie!

Hugo Invernizzi, who played exceptionally well in both of the games, was one of the first Nanterre players to jump to Twitter after the victory. Given his combined 7-of-9 shooting in the FIBA Europe Cup tie against Elan Chalon, the Nanterre forward might have mailed that in from deep as well.

Getting a picture with a champion was on the bucket list of many fans. And Bathiste Tchouaffe, like all other players, posed patiently and with a big smile on their faces.

Nanterre weren't only the buzz of the evening on social media, with echoes of their double triumph finding their way to the papers as well – 'Nanterre are magical', 'Win after win for Nanterre' read the titles.

But of course, it wouldn't be a proper celebration without spraying champagne all over the court...

Or, for that matter, cutting the victorious net off the basket.

For three of the players involved in the FIBA Europe Cup Final, Mathias Lessort of Nanterre, and the Chalon duo of Moustapha Fall and Axel Bouteille, there was more news the following morning, as they were named in France's preliminary roster for the FIBA EuroBasket 2017.

Did we mention that everyone in Nanterre was just super excited and wanted to say well done?

We probably did, we probably did!
