Hungary to hit the comeback trail

BUDAPEST (FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship Division B 2016) – Hungary will be determined to bounce straight back to the top tier when they hit the hardwood in Podgorica.

Having been promoted two years ago, they dropped immediately back through the trap door after failing to survive their Division A campaign in Lanzarote.

Things could have been worse, but the U18 team survived a similarly nail-biting relegation decider at last year's FIBA U18 Women's European Championship in Celje and still many of those same players will find themselves in Division B after moving one age category up.

On paper at least, Hungary should have a good shot of being competitive. Whether that will translate into another promotion campaign will remain to be seen.

The main thrust of their challenge is likely to come from last year’s U18 core, including UE Sopron duo, Debora Dubei and Virag Weninger.

The former is one of the most highly-rated 1997 prospects on the continent and will need to show her classy offensive capabilities when Hungary jump into action in Group A against Czech Republic and Ukraine.

There will also be a big expectation on Duquesne University attendee Eniko Kuttor, whose rebounding abilities and athleticism could also be vital for her country.
