Malta deny tournament hosts Andorra a winning start

ANDORRA LA VELLA (FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2018, Division C) – Moldova and Malta secured opening-day wins at the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2018, Division C on Tuesday evening.

Kristy Galea put together a monster performance for Malta to deny tournament hosts Andorra the win on the first day of action. The 18-year-old point guard collected 26 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals, as the Maltese side got the show on the road with a 66-56 win.

Michela Cordina was the only other double-digit scorer for Malta with 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Lies Bosma Cortes top-scored for Andorra with 12 points and 6 boards.

In the other game of the day, Moldova celebrated a 62-51 win against Gibraltar, with Maria Timbalari leading the way with a 15-point and 14-rebound double-double with 4 blocks.

Olga Cozonac and Elena Cozonac both also had double-doubles for the Moldovans, with Gibraltar's Marta Perez Castro finishing the fixture with a game-high 17 points and 6 steals.
