Martinez excited by switch back to Schio

SCHIO (EuroLeague Women 2017) – Veteran Spanish playmaker Nuria Martinez has expressed her delight at being given the chance to extend her EuroLeague Women career with a move back to Beretta Famila Schio.

Speaking after being unveiled as the club’s latest signing which will see her link up with her compatriot in the form of head coach Miguel Mendez and go back to the clubs she represented in 2008-09, she stated, "Schio has great tradition and strength.

"I've always had the utmost respect for them and their work methods. To play there again with all their fans will be been special and inspiring.

"The season that awaits us will be, as always, long and crucial, with exciting challenges against the best European and Italian teams.

"To the fans of Schio, I can say that I am sure that the whole team will do its best to lead it as far as possible."

The 32-year-old has previously played in the competition with WBC Dynamo, Ros Casares, Kayseri Kaski spor and Galatasaray.

Capturing Martinez has also been heralded by the club’s General Manager, Paolo De Angelis who is retaining the Italian core, but overseeing some important additions including France senior standout Endene Miyem who has made the move from Dynamo Kursk and Italian rising star Marzia Tagliamento.

He confirmed, "We are very happy as we have strongly backed Martinez because we know her technical skills, reading [of the game] skills and her tactical intelligence.

"We are pleased with the few changes that have occurred, thus ensuring continuity to our project, and the arrivals of Tagliamento and Miyem confirm the high technical rate.

"We want to continue to play good basketball and have fun, but also be a winner. We believe the roster this season will meet all these expectations," he concluded.
