EuroCup Women Preview: Thursday 8 December

VIDNOJE (EuroCup Women) – There are seven more games to savour on the penultimate week of the Regular Season with more tickets for the next phase waiting to be snapped up.

VBW CEKK Cegled continue to be one of the surprises of the season in Group A, with the Hungarian side having moved to the brink of qualification. Indeed, they will punch their ticket if they can dig out a triumph in Russia against Sparta&K M.R Vidnoje.

Although for head coach Laszlo Cziczas, he is still getting used to the new concept of increased expectation after his side made heavy work of seeing off the winless Hoptrans-Sirenos last week to move to 3-1.

"Those games are always the hardest to win - those which everybody expects us to win," reflected the play-caller.

"It was true against Hoptrans-Sirenos as it was a poor game, but we still took a very important victory.

"It now means our chances to pass through this group are still alive."

Hoptrans-Sirenos will face group leaders Maccabi Bnot as they look to record a first success in the competition.

Not far away from Vidnoje in Group B, MBA Moscow will try to halt their recent slide.

They will be confident of doing so when they go up against the still winless PINKK-Pesci 424 on their own floor. Especially after their win last weekend in the Russian Premier League.

There will be a lot of determination from Olympiacos this week at Aluinvent Miskolc as they look to erase the memory of their late capitulation against Yakin Dogu Universitesi last time out.

"We did a lot of mistakes that we should not have done and of course when you play against such a good team, with good players, you pay for every mistake," conceded veteran forward, Styliani Kaltsidou.

"Unfortunately, the 20 points difference was not the real picture.

"That game is over now and we have not had time to think about it and just need to improve for this next one."

This next game will also witness changes as Olympiacos have parted ways with both Katerina Bartonova and Erlana Larkins - preferring to bring in the vastly experienced Doneeka Hodges.

Also at 2-2, Good Angels Kosice are threatening to disrupt a season that had promised so much for the Greek side. Although the Slovak Republic champions have a real task in trying to keep their noses in front of Olympiacos as they entertain the flawless Yakin Dogu Universitesi.

Another side who have enjoyed a successful first foray in the competition are Rutronik Stars Keltern and they will be hopeful they can move to 3-2 when they host the winless Uniao Sportiva.

Fellow German club TSV 1880 Wasserburg are even nearer to qualifying for the Round of 16 and will do so if they can beat the visiting Udominate.
