Lublin celebrate landmark win; perfection for Virtus

MUNICH (Germany) - It was a proud night for Regular Season newcomers Polski Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin as they won for the first time in the competition, while Virtus Segafredo Bologna remain unbeaten.

On Wednesday night, Casademont Zaragoza almost caused a huge upset after only just being edged out by reigning champions Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding.  Surprise package DVTK HUN-Therm also stayed flawless after winning at Beretta Famila Schio.

Third time lucky for Polski Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin

After opening up their first ever Regular Season campaign with successive defeats, it was a case of third time lucky for Polski Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin as they collected a maiden EuroLeague Women victory. Facing ACS Sepsi-SIC who were also looking to grab a slice of history, the Polish hosts prevailed 76-65.

The famous win was founded on a quick-fire start as they got onto the front foot early with a 24-13 opening quarter and kept their opponents at arms' length for the remainder of the contest. Elin Gustavsson and Channon Fluker came to the party with two massive displays, the former racking up 17 points, 11 boards and 4 asissts, with Fluker adding 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Perfection for Virtus Segafredo Bologna

It's been a perfect 3-0 start for Virtus Segafredo Bolgona after the Italian side caught fire quickly with a 26-14 opening and it proved a handy cushion for when Perfumerias Avenida came roaring back at the end to give them a scare. However, Virtus held out for a 79-75 victory and in doing so, inflicted a first loss of the campaign on their rivals.

It was a big team effort from Virtus, with five players in double-digits for points, with Ivana Dojkic leading the backcourt with 19 and Iliana Rupert the frontcourt with 15. Avenida had 20 points and 8 boards from Alexis Prince, but their night was soured by a worrying injury to star center Mariella Fasoula.

Fenerbahce dig themselves out of a hole

For periods of the matchup between newcomers Casademont Zaragoza and  Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding, it looked like the former might claim a famous triumph. However, the reigning champions showed the resilience needed when defending silverware by digging out a hard-fought 74-71 win.

When they were outscored 27-15 in the third quarter, Fenerbahce were on the ropes and a first loss looked likely, especially with the 16 point and 11 rebound effort from Leonie Fiebich who was on fire for Zaragoza. However the Turkish giants had their own inspiration from the hand of Kayla McBride who stepped off court with 26 points, 4 assists, 3 boards and 3 steals.

Underdog status being worn well by flawless DVTK

They had to come through the Qualifiers, but by the end of this week's games, DVTK HUN-Therm will no only be 3-0, but will be one of only three unbeaten teams in the competition. Their latest success was a highly impressive 59-55 victory at Beretta Famila Schio.

They used their team-orientated approach and hard-nosed defense do the talking as usual, with the Hungarian club being led by 13 points from Reka Lelik. Meanwhile, Arella Guirantes top-scored with 15 points for the hosts in her first game against the club she starred for last season in the competition.

Valencia heap misery on winless ASVEL

It's proving to be a challenging campaign so far for LDLC ASVEL Feminin who are still searching for a first victory after falling 70-61 on their home court to Valencia Basket Club in the Game of the Week clash. They were undone by the perimeter shooting of the visitors who put up a massive 31 attempts from long-range.

That strategy proved successful, with 11 triples sunk to give Valencia a scoring thrust needed to pull clear. Alba Torrens converted three of those for 15 points, while ASVEL were carried by Marine Fauthoux with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
