UMMC edge Avenida in entertaining shootout, Schio end Galatasaray winning streak

MUNICH (Germany) - Gameday 7 of the EuroLeague Women Regular Season witnessed one of the most compelling games of the year as UMMC Ekaterinburg and Perfumerias Avenida served up a treat for fans.

UMMC had to work hard to protect their unbeaten Group A record after taking a 110-102 success in a terrific advert for the competition. In what was a fitting and absorbing Game of the Week encounter, Kahleah Copper got hot for the visitors with a superb 34 points, but it was Jonquel Jones and Maria Vadeeva that got it done for Ekat in this 2021 Final repeat.

The former was her usual unstoppable self and shot 9 of 11 for 27 points, as well as adding 10 rebounds. Vadeeva continued her impressive campaign with a double-double of her own after coming up with 21 points and 11 boards.

Meanwhile UMMC shooting guard Allie Quigley was relieved to get the victory and commented: "I am sure it was a great game to watch as a high-score game for the fans.

"I think we should get better defensively and won’t give up so many points. At some moments it was a game of individual performances, but nevertheless we are very happy that we were able to win the game."

There was also an intense meeting between Beretta Famila Schio and Galatasaray as the Italian hosts took a 76-73 win to deny their opponents a fifth straight victory. It also means that Schio themselves made it three positive results in a row.

Boosted by the addition of Diamond DeShields, Schio pulled out the win thanks in large part to Kitija Laksa who drained a huge triple with just under 60 seconds remaining on the game clock. She had 11 points and was the leading scorer for the Italians, with four of her teammates all racking up 10 points apiece. Kaela Davis responded with 24 points for Galatasaray.

Fenerbahce Safiport moved past Dynamo Kursk 83-58 despite a slow start as a huge 27-5 finish to the first-half allowed them to take control. Despite having center Eva Lisec back from injury, Kursk were undone by a sparkling 18 points and 10 rebounds from Satou Sabally, as well as 16 points, 10 boards and 4 assists from Kayla McBride.

"I'm really happy to play with this great team again," said Satou Sabally afterwards.

"I played in Poland last week, but I really missed playing at home - I missed the great atmosphere. Today everyone was great - the players, the staff and the fans.

"Beating Kursk is a really important success because they have a quality squad and players. We are still improving day by day and I believe we will get better," she added.

A strong team effort propelled Spar Girona past VBW Arka Gdynia 80-70, with a string of players reaching double figures in scoring for the winning team.

Kennedy Burke top-scored with 16 points, while Rebekah Gardner and Binta Drammeh shared 30 points. Meanwhile Megan Gustafson continued to excel for Gdynia with 24 points and 11 rebounds, with the Polish team punished for 20 turnovers.

Back in Group A, Jasmine Thomas of TTT Riga scored a last-gasp 'and-1' play at KSC Szekszard to hand her team their third win of the campaign in a nail-biting 68-65 triumph. The success was also built around an eye-catching 25 points from Ieva Pulvere, as well as 12 points and 16 boards from Daugile Sarauskaite.

The result was agonizing for the home side as they slumped to 0-7 despite four different players posting double-digit scores, including Livia Gereben with a smart 16 points.

ZVVZ USK Praha continue to show their potential this season to challenge for honors after they overwhelmed Umana Reyer 88-53.

There was just no stopping center Brionna Jones who terrorized the visiting defense and finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds as the Czech giants improved to 5-2.

Finally, BLMA outpaced MBA Moscow 86-77 as Olivia Epoupa came up with a fine all-round display of 12 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Sydney Wallace played an important cameo with 18 points to ensure the French club picked up their fourth win.
