Six players to watch in the EuroLeague Women Qualifiers

MUNICH (Germany) - The excitement is building ahead of the EuroLeague Women Qualifiers as six clubs get ready to do battle for the two Regular Season places still up for grabs.

Taking place in two groups from September 21-23 in  Schio and Sfantu Gheorge, the Qualifiers will put the spotlight on the players who look destined to be critical for their respective teams' prospects.

Here are some to look out for.

Kim Mestdagh - Beretta Famila Schio

SHOOTING GUARD
Height: 1.80cm / 5ft 11in
Date of Birth: March 12, 1990

Having moved to Schio last season, Mestdagh already has a feel for the Italian club and will be looking to show her class and propel Schio back to their customary Regular Season place. It's been a roller-coaster 2021, including losing in that epic five-game Italian Championship series against derby rivals Reyer Venezia, winning bronze at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket with Belgium and then suffering heartache at Tokyo 2020. Mestdagh showed out with some excellent displays and not least in the dramatic but agonizing Quarter-Final loss against Japan. Now we can look forward to her bouncing back at club level and putting points on the board in EuroLeague Women.

Raquel Carrera - Valencia BC

POWER FORWARD
Height: 1.91m / 6ft 3in
Date of Birth: October 31, 2001

The past 12 months have been significant for Carrera, who has shown she can live up to the hype and expectation of her youth career. The forward has shown she can perform at a high standard at the top level and none more so than when she was a major contributor to delivering a historic EuroCup Women title for Valencia last season, only just missing out on the MVP award. Since then, she's played at both the FIBA Women's EuroBasket and the Olympics. Exciting things continue to happen and she is front and central to Valencia's dreams of making the Regular Season.

Jovana Pasic - ACS Sepsi-Sic

SHOOTING GUARD
Height: 1.83cm / 6ft 0in
Date of Birth:  May 12, 1992

It was a no-brainer for ACS Sepsi-Sic to hang on to the guard who was one of two players who posted a double-digit scoring return for the Romanian champions in their best ever EuroCup Women season last year. Understated in many ways and not necessarily spectacular in her showings, she is just so effective. Pasic was also second in efficiency and this time around because of her return, it secures valuable continuity and reliability for Coach Zoran Mikes. She also had a good FIBA Women's EuroBasket for Montenegro and will score, create and do the dirty work for Sepsi.

Brooque Williams - Kayseri Basketbol SK

GUARD
Height:  1.72cm / 5ft 8in
Date of Birth:  January 14, 1989

They say that good things come to those who wait and Williams has certainly had to be patient as she is currently clinging to hopes that if Kayseri manage to make it, she will make her Regular Season debut at 32-years-old. She was impressive last season for Bologna and helped them take a surprise top four finish in Italy, with Kayseri certainly in need of her versatility, ferocious defense and competitiveness.

Endy Miyem - Tango Bourges

POWER FORWARD

Height: 1.88cm / 6ft 2in
Date of Birth:  May 15, 1988

Highly experienced and oozing quality, Miyem has returned to Bourges where she excelled earlier in her career, once playing for them in the Semi-Finals of the tournament. That is as good as things have gotten in the past two decades for the French side, who are now battling to save their precious tradition of appearing in the Regular Season. Having Miyem to lead the frontcourt with her scoring, rebounding, defense and veteran smarts boosts their chances of success considerably.

Zala Friskovec - KSC Szekszard

SHOOTING GUARD
Height: 1.80cm / 5ft 11in
Date of Birth:  October 10, 1999

The evolution continues at the international and club level for Friskovec, who made everyone sit up and take notice in EuroCup Women last season with some great performances to help KSC Szekszard reach the Final Four. She has also developed into a major baller for Slovenia and as her maturity continues, she is dreaming of a first-ever EuroLeague Women Regular Season. In good form and maturing rapidly, the sight of her making and creating could mean good things will happen for her team. Watch out for her trademark clenched fist of delight when she makes big buckets.
