Game of the Week: Sopron eye decisive jump, Galatasaray look to revive their chances

SOPRON (Hungary) - With only a few Regular Season games to go, Sopron Basket are looking to take a big step towards the Quarter-Finals, while Galatasaray have no margin for error in their pursuit of a place in the last eight.

Sopron look to potentially get their bid to win Group B back on track after a mid-season wobble, while Galatasaray head into this game with a losing season record. That means they realistically need to get the win in order to keep their Quarter-Final prospects truly alive.

The live broadcast of the game between Sopron Basket and Galatasaray will be freely available on the EuroLeague Women YouTube channel, as well as on Facebook, at 21:00 CET on Wednesday, January 26.

Form guide: Sopron currently sit in top spot in Group B, with a 7-4 record. Domestically they have lost just once all season in the Hungarian League. Galatasaray are in 6th place in the standings with a 5-6 record. They have also been struggling all season in the Turkish League, where they are also in 6th place, having won 8 and lost 6 games..

Last meeting: It was arguably Galatasaray's most impressive performance and result of the season as they beat Sopron 67-61 in Istanbul. Anete Steinberga erupted with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, although the Latvian ace has been out injured lately and is likely to miss this rematch.

Melis Gulcan has done a good job in recent games for Galatasaray

Key matchup: While there are so many matchups to choose from, perhaps it could be the success, or lack there of, of Melis Gulcan in the forward spot that could be pivotal. The Galatasaray baller has had to step up in the absence of Anete Steinberga and while there has been a lot of positive noise around the displays of her colleagues, such as Pelin Bilgic, Tina Krajisnik and the recently arrived Kelsey Plum, she has also impressed of late. However, potentially going up against the veteran know-how of Sopron standout Jelena Brooks is going to be a seriously tough assignment.

X-factor:  Galatasaray will surely try to push the ball and use their three guards in Bilgic, Plum and Kaela Davis to run and gun. Contrast that to Sopron who will probably be laser-focused on their defense and controlling the game via their trio of Briann January, Nevena Jovanovic and Zsofia Fegyverneky.
