Abdi inks Avenida deal and pre-season silverware handed out

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) – Perfumerias Avenida have swooped for the services of Swedish ace Farhiya Abdi as they look to strengthen their line-up for the start of the EuroLeague Women Regular Season next month.

Abdi lands in Salamanca

The 25-year-old forward will now play for her fifth club in EuroLeague Women, having previously appeared for IMOS Brno, Good Angels Kosice, Wisla Can-Pack and Mersin Buyuksehir, who she briefly represented in the competition last season.



Abdi will bring athleticism, versatility and some further excitement for fans of Avenida, with the club revealing local supporters having almost unanimously renewed their season tickets for the new campaign. Abdi also has WNBA minutes on her resume having suited up for the Los Angeles Sparks.

Castors Braine win prestigious tournament

The signs are positive for Castors Braine ahead of their return to EuroLeague Women after they lifted the trophy of a prestigious friendly tournament on their home floor against ZVVZ USK Prague, ESBVA-LM and UMMC.

Braine won all three of their outings and showed they have composure in the clutch with some thrilling victories. They opened up with a dramatic 70-69 triumph against ESBVA-LM and then grabbed a similarly exciting 65-63 victory against UMMC Ekaterinburg.


Even if the Russia giants were without some big guns, they still had the likes of Alba Torrens, Lara Sanders, Evgenia Belyakova, Natalia Vieru, Raisa Musina and Nika Baric on board.

Braine rounded off a fine few days by beating ZVVZ USK Prague 76-70, thanks to 20 points from Latvia national team center Anete Steinberga, who recently agreed a return to Belgium for a second spell at the club.

UMMC were also beaten 76-68 by ESBVA-LM, as Serbian shooter Nevena Jovanovic dropped 15 points for her new team.

Hosts cut down in Can-Pack Cup

Home favorites Wisla Can-Pack had to settle for third place at the Can-Pack Cup over the weekend. AZS-UMCS Lublin took the silverware with an absorbing 54-52 success against EuroCup Women side Good Angels Kosice in the Final.

Former Serbian national team star Dajana Butulija excelled with 16 points for the winning side, while German forward Sonja Greinacher dropped 18 points for Wisla as they held off Artego Bydgoszcz 66-60.

Sopron Basket share spoils with Gyor

Hungarian champions Sopron Basket have been facing CMB Cargo Uni Gyor in a pair of friendlies on the road and had mixed fortunes.


They won the first meeting with their domestic rivals 75-51 as Jelena Milovanovic and Angela Salvadores shared 36 points, only to then suffer a setback by subsequently losing 79-73 as Gyor extracted revenge.
