Preview: Who will reach the first checkpoint on a victorious note?

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers) - The first round of games in the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers offered three well-fought contests and a flurry of outstanding individual performances.

There is more where that came from with the teams back in action on Sunday and the trio of Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland joining the competition.

Group A: The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia v Switzerland

Time: Sunday, 20:45 CET
Head-to-head: This will be the first time these teams face each other in a FIBA competition.
Follow this game because: Having defeated the Slovak Republic on Thursday, the Jordanco Davitkov-coached Macedonians have a chance to cement their place at the top of Group A standings by improving to 2-0 and keeping both of their rivals winless in the first international window.
Key matchup: Richard Hendrix started the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers campaign with 21 points and 14 rebounds. He will be a double-double threat against Switzerland while facing Marko Mladjan, one of the top players on the Swiss team.
The 'insider' prediction: In spite of losing three of their last four home games in FIBA competitions, MKD are the heavy favorites to inscribe their second win in the Pre-Qualifiers and inch closer towards securing the top spot that guarantees passage to the next round.

Group B: Armenia v Denmark

Time: Sunday, 19:00 CET
Head-to-head: This will be the first time these teams face each other in a FIBA competition.
Follow this game because: If anyone can stop Armenia in Group B, it is Denmark. Given the stark contrasts in strength, the Armenian victory against Albania on Thursday was more or less a foregone conclusion but Denmark, and their core of Bakken Bears players, are a lot better equipped to mount a solid challenge.
Key matchup: Danish big man Jonas Bergstedt will be tasked with trying to keep Lucas Fischer off the glass. Fischer, the starting center of the Armenian national team, played the full 40 minutes in their first test against Albania and amassed nearly half of the team's rebounds with 16 boards.
The 'insider' prediction: Armenia looked particularly solid at home in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Pre-Qualifiers during the summer and combination of their talent and the extra energy from the crowd in Yerevan should be enough for Ryan Boatright and company to hold off Denmark.

Group C: Portugal v Luxembourg

Time: Sunday, 17:00 CET
Head-to-head: The sides have met on two previous occasions, both in 2001, with Portugal winning both times (98-67 and 91-59)
Follow this game because: After ending up on the wrong side of an upset against Cyprus on the road in Nicosia, Portugal find themselves in must-win territory against an undersized yet underrated Luxembourg side.
Key matchup: Alex Laurent was Luxembourg's top scorer in the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers at 19.5 points per game and now it will be his turn in Group C to go up against Portugal's frontcourt headed by Joao Gomes, who had 23 points and 11 rebounds in the first game in Cyprus.
The 'insider' prediction: It is high time for Portugal to snap out of their funk and they are the odds-on favorites to triumph in Almada on Sunday. However, Luxembourg do pack a punch, as they showed by defeating Great Britain in 2016.
