Road to FIBA EuroBasket 2021

The FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers First Round will be contested by nine teams and will take place during the same first three windows of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers First Round, in November 2017, February 2018 and June/July 2018.

The winning team from each of the three groups, plus the best second-placed team, will each earn a spot in the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round together with the bottom-placed teams from each of the eight groups of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers.

The Pre-Qualifiers Second Round involves the four teams who advance from the First Round, where they will be joined by the bottom-placed team from each of the eight FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers groups. They will be divided into four groups, with the winner of each group advancing to the FIBA EuroBasket Qualifiers. These games will be played in the September 2018, November 2018 and February 2019 windows.

The teams missing out in the Pre-Qualifiers First and Second Round will have another chance to advance to the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers via the Pre-Qualifiers Third Round. The Third Round will be played in a home-and-away format, with the teams facing each other over six gamedays from August 3-21, 2019.

The four group winners will complete the 32-team field for the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers, joining the four teams from the Pre-Qualifiers Second Round and the 24 teams from the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers Second Round.

The FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers will be played across three windows:

  • February 17-25, 2020
  • November 23 - December 1, 2020
  • February 15-23, 2021
