Danes continue mercurial run, claiming another major scalp

BALLERUP (FIBA EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers) - Denmark have claimed their second major scalp of the week, defeating heavily-favored neighbors Sweden 76-72.

Turning Point: Up by six (58-52) with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, Sweden were outscored 10-4 on a Kevin Larsen-led run, seeing the teams enter the deciding fourth quarter tied up. In front of their rapturous home crowd, Denmark maintained a steady ship through the final frame to hold on for a famous win.

Stats Don't Lie: Denmark absolutely dominated Sweden down low, outscoring their opponents in the paint 46-20.

Game Hero: With Shavon Shields ruled out injured after taking hero honors in Denmark's double overtime victory on Thursday night, it was Kevin Larsen leading the way, with a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double, proving unstoppable inside.

Game Notes: This was a rare scalp indeed for Denmark, over their more established basketball neighbors. The Danes have now increased their winning run in this competition to six games. However, they should not get ahead of themselves. Both wins came by the slightest of margins, meaning they will still likely need at least one more win in the November window to confirm top spot in Group A.

They Said: "We knew some of the Swedish Bigs weren’t there and we wanted to use that to create an advantage. That is one of the main reasons we were able to win today, because we scored a lot of points in the paint. We figured out how to use our advantage in the paint" - Danish head coach Erez Bitman.
