Itoudis confirmed as Greece head coach: ''I know what the expectations are''

ATHENS (Greece) - Dimitris Itoudis has been installed as the new head coach of Greece's national team as they build towards FIBA EuroBasket 2022.

The experienced playcaller takes the reins from Sotiris Manolopoulos - who was in charge of the start of their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers campaign - after reaching an agreement with the federation.

"It is a truly big, great honor [to become the head coach of my country's national team]," said Itoudis. "As I have said previously, if you truly want something from the bottom of your heart, it becomes reality, because you create the world you live in.

"I know what the expectations are. Greeks are a proud nation and they love basketball, which has brought them many joys. I am also aware of our obligations. I hope the players stay healthy and I look forward to working with them."

Itoudis is a two-time EuroLeague title-winning coach having also won multiple domestic championships with CSKA Moscow since taking charge in 2014. The 51-year-old also previously enjoyed over a decade-long stint as assistant to Zeljko Obradovic at Panathinaikos; winning numerous titles with the Greek club.

They will head to Milan, Italy for FIBA EuroBasket 2022 as they compete in Group C alongside Croatia, Ukraine, Great Britain, Estonia and the hosts from September 2-8.
