BCL Americas Season 5 teams, groups are set

MIAMI (United States) – The Basketball Champions League Americas official draw for its fifth season took place on Wednesday August 9 in Miami.

This edition of the continent’s most important club tournament, has the participation of 12 teams from seven countries in the region. Representing Argentina there is the current champion Quimsa, the runner-up Boca Jrs. and Obras. For Uruguay, there is champion Hebraica Macabi and finalist Nacional. The Chile champions UdeC and Nicaragua’s Real Esteli are back. Halcones de Xalapa is the representative of Mexico and for the first time Venezuela is present with the champion of its league, Gladiadores de Anzoátegui. The three Brazilian teams in the competition will be announced at a later stage.

The executive director of the FIBA ​​Americas Regional Office, Carlos Alves, hosted the draw along with Maria del Mar Torres and Moises Linares, which was broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the BCL Americas.

Group A, which was previously assigned for geographical and logistical reasons, hosts Real Estelí (NCA), Halcones de Xalapa (MEX) and Gladiadores de Anzoátegui (VEN).

For this reason, only Groups B, C and D were drawn. Two clubs from the same country cannot be part of the same group.

These were the results of the draw:

 

Group A: Real Estelí, Halcones de Xalapa, Gladiadores de Anzoátegui
Group B: Quimsa, Brasil 2, Nacional
Group C: Hebraica Macabi, Brasil 3, Boca Jrs.
Group D: Brasil 1, Obras, UdeC

Season 5 of the BCL Americas will begin on December 13, with the 12 clubs competing in the Group Stage. Then, the eight best teams will advance to the Quarterfinals, scheduled from March 4 to 10, and there they will battle to reach the final stage to be played in April 2024.

SESI Franca from Brazil is the current champion of the Basketball Champions League Americas. The champion of this edition will secure his place in the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup in 2024.
