Venezuela score important win over Chile

BARQUISIMETO (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019)— Venezuela defeated Chile 77-56 as locals in the city of Barquisimeto and reached a desired triumph at Group B of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers. Heissler Guillént was the best scorer, with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.

Chile could not use Venezuela's errors in the offense to their advantage. With Guillént in the lead, followed by José Ascanio with 13 points and 4 rebounds, as well as José Vargas with 12 points, Venezuela took the victory.

With this result, the team coached by Fernando Duró now register 2-1 and will visit Colombia (0-3) on Sunday to try to scale up in the positions. For Chile, this meant their second defeat in the Qualifiers (1-2) and now must face Brazil (3-0) for their first game.

At the team coached by Claudio Jorquera the 16 points by their main figure, Gerardo Isla, were not enough. Of the remaining players, none could reach the double digits, and only Sammis Reyes could make a small difference, with 7 points.

As for the Argentines, they threw for a 34.78% from the three-point area (8/23) and 47.62% in field goals, while grabbing 39 rebounds (26 in the defense) and handing 19 assists. The Chileans could only capture 26 rebounds and barely did 8 assists in the whole encounter, while doing 44.9% in field goals (22-49).

The locals began winning with no problems the first quarter, with a 12-point difference (23-11) with Gregory Echenique, Pedro Chourio and Guillént as scoring leaders, and went to the half-time 36-27 with a distributed scoring. They comfortably won the third quarter (24-14) and the last one they did so with a lesser difference (18-15), but the match was already defined.
