Puerto Rico’s Casiano acknowledges the risks of playing well-known rivals in the World Cup Qualifiers

SAN JUAN (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) - Puerto Rico now knows its rivals for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers following the official draw in Guangzhou, China and recognizes the risks of facing well-known rivals.

Puerto Rico will be in Group C, along with the United States, Mexico and Cuba.

"We're in a group where we all know each other, it's a dangerous group. Now the important thing is to know which team we will count on, so we have expanded our pool of players," said Boricua National Team Coach Eddie Casiano to the Puerto Rico National Federation.

Puerto Rico will start its qualifying campaign to China 2019 on November 23 against the United States.

"Their (USA) quarry is very extensive and good, no matter what team they select they are dangerous team and opponent," Casiano said of world and Olympic champion USA.

In the first phase of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers there are four groups of four teams and three will advance from each group to the next stage.

Puerto Rico arrives at the World Cup Qualifiers after capturing Gold at the Centrobasket Championship 2016 after defeating their Group C rival Mexico.

Later this week, Eddie Casiano will announce his preliminary list of players for the Puerto Rican Team.

Puerto Rico will try to capture one of the 7 tickets available in the Americas to the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
