LTU - Plenty of experience but no Javtokas, Kleiza

VILNIUS (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Lithuania coach Jonas Kazlauskas is going to have plenty of experience and talent at his disposal for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The veteran play-caller on Tuesday announced a 17-strong list of players to compete for the final 12 spots, including several stars that reached the podium at the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

They are Mantas Kalnietis, Martynas Pocius, Renaldas Seibutis, Jonas Maciulis, Simas Jasaitis and Paulius Jankunas.

Jankunas and Jasaitis were injured last summer and unable to play at EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia, where Lithuania finished runners-up to France.

Other veterans in the 17-man preliminary squad include the Lavrinovic brothers, Ksistof and Darjus.

Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas, a member of the senior side since 2011, is a lock to make the final squad along with Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Donatas Motiejunas.

Antanas Kavaliauskas, a center who was called into Lithuania's 2012 Olympic squad at the last minute as a replacement for the injured Robertas Javtokas, has a chance to play at the World Cup.

Javtokas and Linas Kleiza, an all-tournament selection at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and last year's EuroBasket, asked not to be included this summer so they can recover from injuries.

Others named in preliminary roster are Adas Juskevicius, Sarunas Vasiliauskas, Zygimantas Janavicius, Deividas Gailius and Arturas Gudaitis.

Lithuania are to start their training 7 July in Palanga.

They will compete in Group D, in Gran Canaria, against Slovenia, Australia, Angola, Mexico and Korea.
